Collège du Moulin Blanc on Avenue du Général Leclerc introduced a daily five-minute meditation routine for all students at the start of this school term, marking a new push in Saint-Tropez to bring mindfulness into the classroom. Nearby, the Institut Sainte-Anne piloted a yoga and breathwork program for its CE2 and CM1 classes earlier this year. The goal is the same at both campuses: offer children simple, structured ways to build mental resilience before exam stress and social pressures take hold.
Mental health professionals in the Var have warned of a steady increase in student anxiety disorders and attention difficulties since the pandemic, a trend that echoes reports from Paris to Toulon. In June, the Centre Médico-Psychologique (CMP) de Gassin reported a 20% uptick in adolescent clients under 16 compared with 2022 figures. Saint-Tropez’s schools, though small compared to urban counterparts, face their own share of challenges—from academic competition to social media-induced exhaustion. "We’re seeing more children struggle to focus or manage emotions, especially around exam periods," said a school psychologist from the local Conseil Départemental, who supports multiple primary schools in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. This has spurred administrators and parent groups to prioritise preventative wellbeing measures rather than only reacting in crisis.
Collège du Moulin Blanc tapped into the government-endorsed "Programme Mindful France," which provides digital guided meditations, short classroom scripts, and optional teacher coaching. The program is free for public schools, and paid options (beginning at €600 per year) are available for private institutions. Teachers at Sainte-Anne, meanwhile, worked with local yoga instructor Virginie Marchand, who leads after-school mindfulness workshops in Parc de la Citadelle. Each class at Sainte-Anne now practises three-minute breathing exercises after lunch every Tuesday and Thursday.
There’s modest but growing evidence behind these initiatives. According to a 2025 survey by France’s Observatoire National de la Vie Étudiante, students participating in regular school mindfulness programs reported 28% fewer complaints about exam anxiety than peers without access. Locally, Sainte-Anne’s school leadership shared anonymised records with The Daily Saint-Tropez showing a 15% reduction in detentions linked to disruptive behaviour across the three months since the mindfulness pilot began.
For Saint-Tropez parents interested in bringing similar programs to their child’s school, the Mairie encourages contacting parent associations such as the FCPE Saint-Tropez or reaching out directly to school administrators—especially ahead of the September 2026 rentrée. Meanwhile, after-school programs like Les Petits Yogis (held Thursdays at Espace Des Lices, €15/session) remain open for families keen on extracurricular mindfulness experiences. City officials suggest the next stage may involve collaborative workshops between Saint-Tropez schools and neighbouring towns, especially as funding for youth mental health receives fresh attention in the Var’s 2026-2027 regional budget discussions.
